Jammu and Kashmir is the northernmost state of the Indian Peninsula. Srinagar is the summer capital and Jammu is the winter capital of the state.
Urdu, Kashmiri and Dogri are the official languages of the state.
Jammu and Kashmir shares International borders with People's Republic of China on the north and east and Pakistan administered territories to the west and northwest. Himachal Pradesh lies to the south of Jammu and Kashmir. The Jhelum River flows through Kashmir valley.

Jammu and Kashmir is a paradise for adventure sports lovers. Trekking, skiing, hang gliding, golfing, caving and mountaineering are some of the adventure sports that a tourist can indulge in. The Chadar trek on frozen river is a challenging adventure for the trekkers.
The Dal Lake in Srinagar is a must-see site for all tourists. The tourists are allowed to hire shikaras and house boats in Dal Lake to go around the lake and relax.
Jammu and Kashmir are also famous for the array of pilgrim sites it houses. Amarnath Caves, Charar-e-Sharif, KshirBhawani Temple at Tulamulla, Rani Mandir at Gulmarg, Sheshnag, Anantnag, ChattiPadshahiGurdwara, Mahakali Temple, Rishipeer at Srinagar and Vaishnodevi Temple at Udhampur are some of the prominent places for pilgrim tourists.
The Mubarak Mandi Palace is a confluence of three different architectural styles: Gothic, Mughal and Rajasthani. Bahu Fort is also an architectural marvel that attracts tourists.
How To Reach
Air: Jammu airport plies flights to major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Pune. Flights to international destinations need to be boarded in Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
Rail: The Jammu Railway Station, located 305 km from Srinagar, is extensively connected to major Indian cities. Jammu Tawi Railway station is used by tourists to reach southern states of the country.
Road: The roads in Jammu and Kashmir are extremely well maintained. National Highway 1A has enabled the state to be well connected with the rest of India. There are regular buses plying to major cities in North India.
