Before you worry about the stress and complications that wanting to intern abroad may cause, however, you’d do well to know that there are actually so many motivational reasons that would make international internships very worth it. Some of these reasons are as follows:
You would gain a deeper understanding of another country and culture: Sitting in a classroom and reading about the traditions and ways of another country can be done by anybody. But, actually being in the thick of those traditions and ways is only available to those who would be brave enough to pack their bags, leave home for a while and go to that other country. Internship programmes in other countries are among the most effective ways of truly gaining an understanding of how other people live, why they live the way they do, how they differ from you and other things.
You would learn things that you wouldn’t have learned at home: Another reason why you should look into an international internship is because it would allow you to see, feel, hear, and learn things that your hometown won’t be able to instill in you. Knowing how to say ‘Excuse me’ in another language, for example, may not be the greatest thing that you’ll ever learn, but it certainly would be one of the most interesting.
You would prove that you are not afraid of new and unfamiliar things: And, of course, an international internship program would speak of the distance to which a person would go to search for higher knowledge. Employers would look favourably upon this. He or she who has international work experience on his or her resume is seen as somebody who isn’t afraid of getting out of his or her comfort zone. And, as initiative and risk-taking are qualities that are admired in employees, students who have a lot of both would not have problems with finding work.
