The Mini Cooper Is Dripping With Style
The MINI Cooper Is Dripping With Style
The MINI Cooper has been fitted with a supercharger that has taken its performance to a level that most other road users don't expect. Those trendy looks suggest a funky shopping car. When you add John Cooper Works package to it, the MINI is untouchable on a country road. The MINI doesn't come cheap and you can forget about discounts, yet the MINI still makes a great financial package. Very few cars in this class have good residual values as the MINI and fuel and company car tax bills are tremendously low. For a minimal fee you can have MINI's TLC package, which covers you for 50,000 miles or five years of servicing costs.
The MINI has an elite image, but although much of the inside looks premium, some of the materials and switchgear are critically plasticky. MINI owners are happy with their cars when it comes to reliability. The 120bhp 1.6 litre MINI Cooper engine is energetic, smooth and alert. The 108bhp MINI Cooper diesel engine is lithe, but not as much fun as the petrol. The Cooper's 1.6 litre turbocharged ...
... engine delivers 181bhp whereas the 2.0 litre diesel engine giving 141bhp is neither quick nor flexible. Whichever engine you choose, the MINI is fun to drive. It's not only untouchable on country roads but in town it is easy to drive too. It is never jerky or rough.
MINI Cooper's petrol engines are smooth and refined, even when revved hard, but the diesels especially the SD, sound a little gruff. The MINI is not by any standards a quiet car as too much road noise gets in to the cabin and there's also wind noise on the motorway. The gear change is efficient. All models of MINI get front, side and cabin length head airbags hence it has a five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating. You can also opt for ISOFIX child seat mountings and stability control is standard throughout the range.
A host of security equipment inspired from BMW makes it hard to steal a MINI. The driver' sits in a comfortable position and it can be adjusted in lots of ways. The heater and stereo controls are not easy to read and are placed awkwardly. The MINI has plenty of head and leg-room for front and back passengers. However, getting in and out of rear seats is not easy and requires skill because the door opening is narrow and low. The MINI cooper gets electric windows and mirrors, air-conditioning, remote central locking, a CD player and alloy wheels as standard.
