Chandigarh - Information About It

Chandigarh is a Union Territory and the capital to two states: Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh gets its name from Chandi, the Hindu Goddess who resides here. Chandigarh is a planned city, the first of its kind in India.
Chandigarh is also considered to be the cleanest city in the country. Hindi, Punjabi and English are the official languages spoken in Chandigarh.
Chandigarh is at the foothills of the Shivalik ranges of the Himalayas. Chandigarh is surrounded by five districts: Patiala, Mohali and Roopnagar from Punjab; and Ambala and Panchkula from Haryana. Chandigarh is only a few minutes away from the northern border of Haryana.

The Chandigarh Museum and Art Gallery that's located on Sector 10 houses artifacts that date back to the Harappan period. The Cactus Garden with its innumerable collection of rare cacti is another tourist friendly place in Chandigarh.
Sector 17 Plaza is the shopping hub in Chandigarh and is an aesthetically designed alley that's a pedestrian paradise. The Hidden Valley is an ecotourism, camping and adventure site that's located on the foothills of the Shivaliks.
Chandigarh offers a wide range of food options to non-vegetarian lovers. Chandigarh follows a Punjabi cuisine and the roadside dhabas are famous for their Tandoori Chicken. There are a lot of options for street food lovers in Chandigarh.
How to Reach
Air: The Chandigarh airport plies regular flights to major cities in India. However, in case of travel to/from international destinations, Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi is the nearest airport.
Rail: The Chandigarh Railway Station efficiently connects Chandigarh with the other major cities in India like Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad by railroads.
Road: National Highways 21 and 22 connect Chandigarh to Leh and Kinnaur, respectively. Chandigarh has well-maintained roads that ease traffic congestion and make travel inside the city a pleasure. Chandigarh is also well connected with all the surrounding villages, and there are regular buses plying from the various villages to Chandigarh.
