Different region have different ways of socializing. At times it is very important that you know what to expect while in a given destination so as to be able to adapt to all that you will come across. Spain is one of the countries where you should know a thing or two so as to know the normal things that you can expect while there on holiday.

Spaniards socialize in different ways. It is a normal thing to see Spaniards give each other a kiss especially if the parties in question are family or friends. Acquaintances are also included. This is a way to say goodbye to each other.

When to male members of the family say goodbye in this way, it shouldn’t be taken in a bad light as it is a normal thing in Spain. Kisses between males are however restricted to very close friends and family members. In other cases, a rather firm handshake is expected. This may apply in some areas of Italy and France.

While talking, the Spaniards are very physical as they love doing that. You can expect people to put hands on each other’s shoulders while talking or even pat each other on the back. You should not be too wary if ...
... this does happen to you under any circumstance. All these are ways of showing that you are friends and are mainly done between relatives, colleagues as well as very close friends.

If you are in a car, you should know that the pregnant women or the very elderly are supposed to ride on passenger seats. This may be an exception if the parties themselves request not to. If nothing is said, make sure that they are on passenger’s seats.

Spaniards may not be very punctual individuals but if you are supposed to be at an appointment in an official place at a specific time, try as much as you can to keep time. Lateness may not go well with most people so avoid it.

If you agree to be accommodated within a Spaniards home, you should remember to bring an extra pair of shoes such as some slippers. These are meant to be worn while you are within the house. Most Spaniards view barefoot walking inside their houses as unsanitary. Some think it a way to easily catch a cold.

On some beaches located in Spain, you can find women sunbathing while without tops. This should not be surprising as it is a normal occurrence. You can expect nudist beaches in some parts of Spain.
