Eating In Spain
If you are planning to go for holiday in Spain, there are various things that you should be aware of so as to make your stay as smooth as possible. There are a lot of different things that you will be able to see and experience in Spain and some may not be what you are originally accustomed to. It is therefore good to prepare yourself so as to reduce the shock that may be associated with the same.
One of the notable things in Spain is eating. Spaniards have a great respect for food. They are passionate about wine too. If we can try to describe Spanish food, we may call it light with many vegetables as well as fish and different meats. In the cuisine associated with Spain, spices are not many. The ingredients that are used to prepare the dishes are of a very high quality and thus the meals are always something to look forward to. If you do not like the dishes that the Spaniards have to offer, there are many other varieties that are available such as American, Italian as well as Chinese.
For most people, breakfast is considered to be the most important meal of the day. For Spaniards however, they hold lunch in very ...
... high regard. You may be therefore surprised with the meals that will be set before you at different times of the day but if you are aware of the Spanish eating timetable, you will be in a good position to tell what exactly you should expect.
First is breakfast which is mainly coffee and a small snack. Most people may go for a midmorning snack but for some, they will be okay to wait for lunch. The snack that is taken at midday is called “el aperitivo”. With this, many may get a beer as accompaniment.
Lunch is quite serious and may last for some hours. In typical Spain, lunch was followed by a siesta especially in the summer climates when the temperatures are unbearably hot. Lunch has two courses plus dessert. Life has over the years become more demanding and so the siesta opportunity has been greatly reduced.
There is no specific time for dinner but in most cases it begins at nine PM. Some people may even eat after eleven. If you cannot wait till dinner, you may take a snack between lunch and dinner. This is a great advantage especially if you missed dinner. It may also be hard to get an open restaurant between the two meals so your best bet is to catch tapas at the various bars in Spain.
