Assam - The Tourist Guide
The state of Assam gets its name from the Sanskrit word "Asama", which means "peerless or unequalled". Dispur is the capital of Assam. The people here speak Assamese or Bodo.
Assam is rich in natural resources like coal, petroleum, limestone and a small quantity of iron ore. Apart from the resources, the biodiversity in Assam is complete with dense deciduous forests, wetland ecosystem, bamboo orchards and riverine grasslands.
Assam is a state in North East India, which is surrounded by Arunachal Pradesh in the North, Sikkim and Meghalaya in the west, Nagaland and Manipur in the east, and Mizoram and Tripura in the south. Assam also shares international border with Myanmar.

There are many pilgrimage centers in Assam, and the most prominent ones are as follows: The Asvakranta Temple, which holds the greastest shrine of Lord Vishnu in Assam; Da-Parbatia Temple that highlights the art form in Assam; Vasishtashrama; Kamakhya Temple, which has the Shakti shrine; Satras, which depict Vaishnavism in Assam; and other temples such as Sukraveshwara temple, Ugratara temple, and Umananda Temple.
How To Reach
Air: The Guwahati International Airport connects all major Indian cities. The nearest airport that has international flights plying across the globe is the International airport in Kolkata. You can reach Kolkata to reach Guwahati in case you are travelling from anywhere outside India.
Rail: Assam is connected to most Indian states through rail. There are trains to and from Guwahati railway station to the various Indian cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore.
Road: Assam State Transport Corporation plies regular buses to the other north eastern states like Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur. Buses are the preferred mode of transport within a city as well. Cabs can also be hired, but they are expensive.
