More Mothers Seek To Reclaim Their Pre-pregnancy Figures

Throughout the 1970s and 80s, pregnant celebrities made a habit of reducing the number of their public appearances in order to stay out of view while their physiques changed dramatically. Beginning in the 1990s, however, the public’s appetite for celebrity photography began to deepen. Female actors leveraged fans’ fascination with their personal lives to make themselves even more popular. Many actresses began showcasing their pregnancies during press tours and movie promotions. The strategy proved to be effective. Much of the celebrities’ fan base was made up of young moms stuck at home with babies and limited distractions. They responded enthusiastically to seeing their likeness in a famous person.
By now, the appeal of female celebrities’ svelte physiques is so widespread that standards for how fast new moms get back in shape have been redefined. The resources that were once only available to the rich and famous are now accessible to women everywhere. This change has happened as the Internet allows enthusiasm for celebrity culture to intensify. Fans have been challenged to separate the standards they hold ...
... celebrities to from the standards to which they hold themselves.
Experts believe that within reason, this effect has had a positive influence as more and more women are motivated to achieve and maintain healthy-looking physiques. Plastic surgeons have also enjoyed some benefit as clients are increasingly likely to seek out body sculpting techniques to improve their appearance.
The Mommy Makeover is a popular grouping of procedures that has helped many new moms recover their pre-baby figures. The Mommy Makeover includes a breast procedure such as a breast lift or augmentation performed at the same time as an abdominal procedure like a tummy tuck or liposuction. The popularity of such surgeries is increasing as plastic surgery, in general, becomes more popular in North America. Reports indicate that between 2010 and 2011, there was an increase of about 5% in the total number of procedures performed. Comparing 2010 to 2000, there has been an 85% increase in the number of patients opting for minimally invasive surgeries.
By performing the Mommy Makeover as a single operation, surgeons are able to create a dramatic aesthetic change with minimum interruption to the mother’s routine. Many women have enjoyed great results with this procedure.
