After hosting the commonwealth games in the year 2010, the city has changed a lot; the bus services have improved, the metro can take you to almost any corner of the city, new lanes have been constructed and new stadiums have been added to the overall appeal of the city. For both the (domestic and foreign) travelers and locals, the city is getting better and better. If sightseeing, partying, enjoying the live music, watching movies in multiplexes or attending art exhibitions is your idea of celebrating holidays, Delhi is the place for you.

Cultural Events

In winter months, from December to February, the city blasts with a large number of outdoor events and live performances of artists from different states of the country. Every year, the National School of Drama in Delhi organizes a classical dance event in January known as the Bharat Rang Mahotsav. The 3 days Sufi music festival held in the grounds of Humayun’s Tomb, and the ‘Ramlila’ performance at the Ramlila Grounds of central Delhi are some popular events that take place every year. There is never a shortage of cultural events in Delhi.

National ...
... Republic Day Celebration

26th January is celebrated all over India as the national republic day and the biggest ceremony is seen in the capital of India, Delhi. A parade of soldiers accompanied by brass bands, tanks and arsenals, folk dancers, students of various schools, and fighter planes flying above make it one of the grandest, spectacular and most respected events of the country. The president of India together with the invited foreign guests remain present at this event and give bravery medals to deserving people from civilians to the armed forces. Every state represents them in this parade and adds to the splendor of this national event.

Kite-Flying Festival

Held on 14th January, the kite-flying festival, also known as ‘Makar Sankranti’ is celebrated in Delhi and in many other cities of India, mainly from the state of Gujarat. On this day, many foreigners along with some renowned faces of Delhi gather at Palika Bazaar near Connaught Place and fly colorful kites (a tethered aircraft made of paper) in the sky. The day is declared as a public holiday all over India. Every civilian enjoys this amazing festival with great spirit, passion and fun.

Garden Tourism Festival

Every year in the month of February, the Talkatora Gardens which were designed by the mighty Mughal Emperor Babar, celebrate the garden festival showing off different hues and tints of hundreds of flowers and exotic plants. The environment becomes more colorful and creates a visual appeal to every visitor. There is another garden festival that takes place every year at Said-ul-Ajaib Garden in the same month; the festival, known as the five senses, showcases themed gardens, floral displays and horticultural demonstrations.

Not to be outdone, there is a never ending list of events and celebrations held in Delhi throughout the year; Beating the Retreat, Thyagaraja Festival, Amir Khusrau's anniversary, International Mango Festival, Phoolwalon-ki-Sair, Qutub Festival, Delhi Book Fair, International Trade Fair, a yoga class in Lodi Gardens, and the India Art Fair to name a few.
