This is again that time of the year – winter – the season to enjoy roasted turkeys, parties, festive and of course to go for vacations. So if you are looking for a winter vacation and want to stay at some exotic hotels, then I have something exciting to tell you. Last year when I was just at the position of you and was simply frustrated in search of a colonial hotel in India, one of my friends came to save me and gave me the contact of Windamere hotel in Darjeeling. Though I was not so sure about the facilities and the charm of the hotel, that the authority claim, after reaching the place, I was really impressed. Though there are not many colonial hotels in India , this is one of the few that makes you proud about your decision.

To tell you the facts about Windamere it was established in the year of 1930s, the Hotel was constructed on the Observatory Hill in Darjeeling by the British government, the ruling power in then India. Though the British went off, they left behind this elegant structure and fortunately enough all its intricate décors and sculptures ...
... are kept intact over all these years. Trust me, the moment you step in, you get the pure British charm and essence from each and every corner of the hotel. Though initially it was a home to the Scottish tea planters and British bachelors, just before the Second World War, this was turned into a hotel by Mr. Tenduf-La, named “Windamere”. Soon after its introduction as a hotel, Windamere became popular as a tourist resort since Darjeeling is the “Summer Capital” of India.

To make you glad, Windamere Hotel won the prestigious award for showing excellence as a Heritage Hotel of India in the first National Award ceremony. Over the years, this outstanding hotel has earned rightful titles like “One of the three Jewels of the Raj” and "Heritage House of the Himalayas". Renowned for its brilliance to sophisticated globetrotters, Windamere has earned its stripes for having unique charms and ambience which make the guests feel the charms of the ancient days. Due to its awe inspiring sculpture as well as mind-blowing atmosphere Windamere has also been the topic of numerous chronicles in the international media.

Well, it is really worth of the money that you need to fork out. If you are looking for a shelter away from the hustle and bustle of the city, then Windamere is going to be the perfect choice for you. The awe inspiring design, the breathtaking scenario and the 46 rooms, including standard rooms, superior rooms, and colonial suites – all is enough to mesmerize you. To add a dash of richness to the beauty of the hotel, the garden area, dining area, and the Sunny Side patio are constructed and maintained with utmost ease.

If you are looking for a life without the modern amenities, Windamere is also ready to offer that. Book a room at the Exotic Villa and enjoy the old world charm of Darjeeling.
