Credit Cards And Your Responsibility

Now that you have left home and are studying at college or university, it is different to living at home. Mum and Dad looked after all financial matters. You probably got pocket money or had a part time job for extra cash but if you ran out there was always Mum and Dad to help you out. You need to be responsible for all of your actions and having a credit card gives you more responsibility than you have probably had before. You need to learn how to manage your money now and having a credit card can help you budget. You certainly don’t need to get on the merry-go- round of bank loans and bad credit.
Credit cards for college students are offered by most banks and credit unions. Don’t get into the trap of having more than one. It is hard enough to pay off one credit card especially if you are also paying off a student loan.
If you go to the bank they will give most college students a credit card as it is another customer base they can open up. If you use your card responsibly and not use it for takeout but for books and other items you need for college, you will get yourself a credit rating that will help you with ...
... a loan for a car or house later on in life after you have left college.
Your credit card can also help you out if you need an appliance or even if you need phone or internet credit before you receive a payment from your scholarship or part time job. It allows you to take advantage of any specials on things that you need while living at college.
Always try to pay them more than the minimum payment or you will be paying the card off long after you have finished at college. This also shows that you have good money skills and will also help you when applying for any positions while at college and after. It shows that you have a measure of responsibility about you.
You will work harder and longer to get things done as you are seen to be a responsible person. If you are also managing to pay off a student loan at the same time and live.
It is important to do some research and look around and see what the different banks and lending institutions are offering. Many credit cards for college students have no annual fee. Many will also offer a period of interest free time, so look around for one of these offers and you won’t be paying as much interest and you will pay the balance of quicker.
It is vital that you don’t get caught in a trap of bank loans and bad credit as a college student. This will ruin your credit rating for years to come and will cost you more money in the long run. This is why you need to show responsibility for your actions.
