Stem Cell Treatment For Spinal Cord Injury In Germany

When it comes to spinal cord, there are many injuries which might come to it. One of the diseases belonging to the spinal cord is leukemia and till now there is no cure for it. Thanks to stem cell treatment however, patients now have hope of a cure and for having a normal life. Not all of the patients can be treated and cured with this treatment; it depends on the condition of the patient. For those who do not know, stem cells basically help the cells of your body to regenerate and replaced damaged cells.
The spinal cord is like a main cable to your body. Every message sent to any part of your body is done through the spinal cord. There are sensors and nerves present in the spinal cord which channel the message. An injury to the spinal cord can not only limit your physical capabilities but could cause sensory problems as well. If you are feeling loss of functionality in your body then it would be best that you get a medical checkup of your back bone.
Stem cell treatment is rather new, and has many applications to it. For the sake of this article, only spinal cord is being discussed. The treatment can be divided ...
... into three parts. The first part is when the stem cells are harvested. For those who do not know that they are, these are cells taken from the fetus’s umbilical cord. Once they are extracted they are isolated until they are purified, and later they are prepared for clinical use. Now that the cells are prepared for a certain type of treatment, they need to enter the body. This can be done via three ways; by injection to the tissues, intravenous injections and lumbar puncture. The lumbar puncture is a procedure in which the stem cells are directly injected in the spinal cord. If the tissues are damaged then tissue injection is preferred as it injects the cells to the targeted tissues. Via an intravenous injection, cells enter the veins of the patient.
There are no side effects to be known till now regarding the stem cell treatment. However some of the patients who had undergone the lumbar puncture did experience mild headaches. This was determined in the third phase of the treatment, which basically involved in observing the patient and the effect the treatment has had. Keep in mind that a small fraction of patients only reported to have mild headaches. During the time under observation, patients have to undergo certain exercises which are important for the completion of the treatment.
Stem cell treatment is rather new and only a few countries offer this treatment. The best countries to offer this treatment include Germany, USA and Japan. China has also devoted an investment when it comes to regenerative cells and is now is also considered a preferable place for stem cell treatment.
