Jal Mahal is a small palace with red sand stones. It is a beautiful and wonderful masterpiece of architecture. Jal Mahal, literally meaning palace in water palace, is located in the centre of the lake Man Sagar, in Jaipur. Built as a hunting lodge, Jal Mahal was built in 1799 by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber and was used for the royal duck shooting parties.. Jal Mahal is considered as one of the most beautiful architectural palace that was built with the Mughal and Rajputana styles of construction. The palace provides a charming view of the Man Sagar Lake and the Nahargarh hills that surround it. The palace and the lake around it were renovated and enlarged in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber.

The first four floors of the palace remain submerged and only the top floor is above the water level. The main dome on the roof resembles that of Bengal architecture and the smaller domes at the four corners are octagonal. At each corner of this palace semi-octagonal towers were built with an elegant cupola and on the terrace of the palace, a garden was built with arched passages. The lake is home to a number ...
... of migratory and resident birds. The Mansagar Dam is situated on the eastern side of the lake and provides a good vantage point for viewing the lake and the valley.

Jal Mahal has also been the home to one of the prime ministers of Jaipur estate. Now the palace remains abandoned, but it is very well-preserved and provides a picturesque view from Nahargarh Fort. The palace is open for people to stay in as well as for lunch, dinners, etc just like any simple visit. Although the palace is quite expensive, it is worth a visit. The interiors and mystical charm of the palace, combined with the unforgettable hospitality of Rajasthan make the complete visit to the palace an experience that can never be forgotten.
This was also made for the royal ladies so that they could see the glimpse of the bazaar. It was really the splendid attraction for them to see the market and the beauty of the pink city from Jal Mahal.

At Gaitore, opposite the palace, are the cenotaphs of the royal family. They were built by Jai Singh II. The cenotaph monuments are in honour of Pratap Singh, Madho Singh II and Jai Singh II, among others. The royal cenotaph of Jai Singh is made of marble and has impressive intricate carvings. It has a dome with 20 carved pillars.

The Jal Mahal Palace in Jaipur is famous for its interesting architecture. It has grown up as a pleasure spot. Surrounded by Nahargarh Hills, Jal Mahal is known for its majestic architecture and sophisticated design. The lake eco system is a favorite home of a number of migratory and resident birds. The Mansagar Dam is situated on the eastern side of the lake and provides a good vantage point for viewing the lake and the valley.

Jaipur which houses this marvelous piece of architecture is the capital of Rajasthan and is also known as the Pink City. Here tourists can explore a number of wonderful attractions other than Jal Mahal such as Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Govind Temple, Mubarak Palace, Nahargarh fort, Jaigarh fort, Amber Fort, Kanak Valley etc. The city is well connected by good network of roads to Delhi and other states of India. Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation's (RSRTC) buses ply to Delhi, 200 km from here, Haryana and many other states. The best time to visit Jaipur is from October to March.
