A New Bland Renault Megane

The budgets required for the development of new cars are huge and usually require some compromises like what is spent on the dynamics cannot be spent on the styling and so on. It especially is hard in case of Renault Megane where profit margins are pretty tight. So when you look at this new bland Renault Megane, first thought that crosses mind is that it will be brilliant to drive. Hoping all that money saved by not evolving a unique design language or inventing anything new over the predecessors could be pumped into bridging the wide gap between this and the best cars in the class. To get it right, Renault has plenty of opportunities and variety of flavours like Hatchback, a Sporty estate, a coupe/cabriolet, and with traditionally excelled marquee the legendary Renault Sport.

Renault engines are varied and many but all of them are not available for each body style. Renault petrol engines include a 1.2-litre, a 1.6-litre whereas Renault diesel engines come in 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre, 1.9-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines. ...
... All come in variety of states of tune and set-up. Renault Megane 3, as they call it, has significantly increased every dimension giving the passengers pretty accommodating head and leg-room and plenty of space for their luggage too. Self-imposed constraints have prevented Renault in developing multi-link rear suspension system found in its rivals. Renault calls the three-door Megane a Coupe but it is a hatchback. It has very little visuals to make it stand out in the crowd.

Grafting on the wider wheel arches enhanced the looks of Renault sport coupe making it more of a success. Optional LED running lights look terrific on Formula-One inspired aerodynamic blade along with larger air intakes on the front bumper. Side sills are more pronounced, at the rear a small diffuser incorporates the central exhaust and elongated spoiler. The latest Megane is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo-charged four-cylinder Renault diesel engine producing 247bhp channeled to the front wheels through a manual six-speed gearbox. There are number of changes made for Megane's cabin, huge LCD speed readout sitting next to a usual revolution counter with instrument pack is inappropriate.

In general some of the switch-gears, particularly the one that operates the optional satellite navigation could have been easier to understand and operate. Renault diesel engines, with an exception of the 1.5-litre 88bhp diesel engine, feel quick and very refined. Even the mid-ranking 109bhp is a good option though some of the Sports buyers may like more torque and power. The Renault sport does 0-60mph in just 6.0 seconds and a 0-100mph in 13.7 seconds, faster than the Focus RS. Gear-shift is less successful which was supposed to be great. Mostly when the road surface is little bumpy, there is an occasional tug from the steering. There is an overly light electric steering system fitted in the Megane.
