Difference Between Conservatory And Orangeries

There are many differences between conservatories and orangeries in their function, construction and uses. Although both are green spaces for nurturing greenery, plants, fruits, and flowers, both orangeries and conservatories have evolved differently and have become distinct parts of modern living.
Origin
An orangery is mainly used for growing citrus fruit trees like lemons and oranges while a conservatory is an indoor greenhouse and contains many different flowers, and trees.
Construction
An orangery is primarily made from bricks and is an actual addition of a house. A conservatory, on the hand, is made up of glass which acts like an adjunct space, an extension of the house but mostly as an external part. Due to its glass walls, conservatories are naturally warm but prone to overheating. Since bricks are used, many orangeries have artificial temperature controls. Such an arrangement is supported by their network of pillars, beams and connection to the home energy supply grid.
Uses
Another difference between conservatories and orangeries ...
... is their structure. Conservatories are usually used for arranging flowers shows; children’s play quarters and family retreat on a quiet afternoon. Since orangeries are more private structures, they are used as family dining rooms, or family lounges. Brick walls keep out external interference and a family can spend quality time around these places.
Cost
Every conservatory comes with a fair sized bill. The cost of constructing a conservatory can go well up to £5000. An orangery is steeper to make and maintain. It can cost as anywhere between 18 to 20 thousand pounds. Hence, both of these are mostly found in resort estates, state botanic gardens or in opulent homes since these require some kind of purchasing power.
These are the primary differences between orangeries and conservatories and how people use them. These have diverse designs and garden plans to suit individual taste.
