Walnut is a type of wood much prized as an example of luxury and wealth down the ages. It has a deep dark brown colour and distinctive graining which gives it a distinctive quality. It used to be used to make furniture from, for people that could afford it, but because it its propensity to be afflicted by woodworm the fashion for using this type of wood in this format became less popular. It can still be seen today in furniture, normally expensive furniture, often in prestigious offices or even used in upmarket cars and limousines.
Walnut wood a versatile option
Walnut in its natural state has a variety of colour shades from light to dark brown depending on which part of the tree it is taken from. Because of its striking appearance it lends itself to be used in door manufacture and walnut doors are becoming more popular these days. The drying process of walnut tends to darken it but the beautiful grain makes it a striking option. ...
... Walnut does not merely look good in formal surroundings. It works just as well as a contrasting feature against more bland backgrounds and can sit easily as a feature floor, decorative panelling or in the form of doors.
Modern Walnut Doors
In common with other forms of furniture, walnut used in the form of a door has always been desirable but perhaps not as readily affordable. The advances in veneering and laminating techniques more recently has brought walnut doors into price brackets more attainable by a wider range of people. At the same time, contemporary door design has moved to more flush orientated styling and this change in style provides an ideal flat canvas for the real beauty of the walnut door to become visible. Through the medium of jointing veneers, whether the grain runs horizontally or vertically, the impact created can be terrific. Other enhancements such as the addition of grooves or contrasting inlays to the face of the door add extra style and panache. Combining walnut veneers with light pigmented oak or ash can be particularly striking, as both woods are appealing in their own right, but the combination of grain textures and figuring linked to the light and dark contrasts creates great impact.
There are many lovely walnut doors in the market and finding the right supplier can be difficult. It is always best to delve deeper than just the appearance of the door as its construction is also important as the door will be required to give good service for many years. Dont forget that when looking to purchase a walnut door to actually see the door in a showroom as buying from a picture in a brochure is not ideal.
