Various procedures are used for Skin Resurfacing. The results of all the procedures are same. Process involves injuring of the skin at desired places and a new skin develops in place of the affected skin. The difference is only in the methodology used in injuring the skin’s layers. In the procedure using chemical peel, it involves application of caustic solution; a high-speed rotary wheel is used in dermabrasion procedure and laser beam is used in laser procedure.

Chemical Peel

In this procedure a solution is applied on the desired places or the entire facial area. It is left on the skin for certain amount of time and the surgeon will observe the changes. In some kind of solutions, it will be neutralized after some time. There are different kinds of caustic solutions that are used according to their ingredients and strength. Depth of their action depends on the time they are left on the skin or on the basis of their application. Alpha hydroxy acids are used for superficial peels. Just by a single application your skin ...
... may get the desired results. Repeated applications will give better results. Effects of aging and sun damage may be cured by using this. Surgeon will recommend certain products for post maintenance of the skin. A trichloracetic acid (TCA) peel is used for milder skin problems and phenol peel is used for rough and sun damaged skin.

Dermabrasion

In this method an injury that is similar to skinning of knee is made by using a small but high speed spinning wheel with a surface like that of a sand paper for abrading the upper layer of the skin. This is a very effective method in removing deeper scars and wrinkles. Some form of anesthesia is required for performing this method.

Laser Resurfacing

In this method laser beams are applied in the desired places or entire facial area. There are two types of laser application. In the first method, a uniform injury is made on the entire surface and in the second method tiny holes are drilled using the laser beam in the severely affected area known as fractional resurfacing.
