10 Tips For Finding The Best Internship

An internship provides students and graduates with invaluable job experience and for this reason it is essential to find the best programme that will allow you to learn about your prospective career from the inside. Whether you are looking for an internship in a marketing agency or an established magazine, there are several things you need to take into account in order to snag an internship that makes a difference.
1) Preparing for the application is vital and it pays to be an early bird in this situation. The best internships have large number of applicants and even though they may not be offered on a first come, first served basis, it is never a good idea to delay sending the application just because the deadline is not near.
2) The simplest way to find the best internships is by checking out the websites of the companies you are interested in on a regular basis. However, you should keep in mind that not all companies post announcements of internships on their website, so if you really want to work for a specific advertising agency for example, you may call them and ask whether they are taking ...
... interns on.
3) Researching the company you choose to work for is an important step, because this will allow you to make sure you apply for a position that fits your interests. In addition to that, you can make a good impression in the interview stage if you are able to display solid knowledge of the company.
4) The first contact a company has with you as a potential intern is your cover letter, so make sure it stands out from the crowd. You should make sure you incorporate elements that make it clear why you are the perfect candidate without actually saying, “I’m the best for the job”.
5) If the internship you’re applying for is for creative department, remember to polish your portfolio carefully in order to show off your potential. Big is not necessarily better in the case of creative designs, so try to focus on quality instead of quantity.
6) The resume is equally important, so it should underline all your working experience up to that point. Many applicants lack experience in the field, so if you have something that is even remotely relevant, make sure you point it out, as it can really make a difference. When in doubt, ask for others to review your application materials.
7) References are the next step to consider and you should make sure you opt for people who actually know you rather than people with titles. Some employers pay more attention to recommendation letters than to your resume, so it makes sense to do your best here.
8) You may have an impressive resume and top-notch recommendations, but nailing an interview is actually the thing that can bring you closer to that internship in the marketing agency of your dreams. As in all jobs related to sales, being passionate is key and thus you should not refrain yourself from talking with excitement about your career plans. Most employers are looking for true talents they can polish further, so make sure they are able to see that sparkle in you.
9) Dressing up for an interview is always a good idea. Whether you are looking for an internship in a high profile company or a less formal advertising agency, your attire should show that you respect the position and the company that is offering it.
10) Finally, remember that in many cases applications for the best internships do not end with the interview. Writing a thank you note to express your gratitude for the opportunity is usually an excellent way of making a lasting impression.
