People seem to jump in and out of diets at a whim. Even people who are not overweight go on diets for some unknown reason. When one person loses a little weight on a diet everyone around that person wants to try the same diet. They will stick with this diet for a couple days or a week and then go back to normal eating and behaviors until the next diet comes around. Some people start a new diet every Monday only to be off the diet by Tuesday or Wednesday. The problem with this crazy way of eating is that there are some very real dangers of dieting and the different fad diets that become popular.

Frequent Weight Changes

One danger of dieting is having frequent weight changes. The heart and other organs of the body are not meant to have to adjust to frequent weight changes and the stress of this can cause significant damage to ones body. It has even be speculated by health professionals that it is better to be a little overweight and remain at a steady weight than to have frequent ups and downs on the scale. People who begin a diet need to recognize this danger in dieting and be committed to losing and keeping ...
... the weight off.

The Malnutrition Danger In Dieting

With some diets a person eliminates certain types of foods or food categories in their diet. People may eliminate fats, carbohydrates, or they may avoid red meat. There are many ideas for foods to avoid that will help in weight loss. The danger in this type of dieting is that, except for complete junk foods, all food has essential nutrients for the human body. Even the normal fat that humans consume is necessary for good body functioning. By eliminating certain foods a person may become malnourished.

Eating Disorders

Another real and growing danger in dieting is the various eating disorders that are plaguing society today. People become so overly concerned with their weight they never seem to be satisfied with their appearance. This psychological disorder will not be helped in any way by dieting but requires counseling and psychological intervention. Without help people with these dangerous dieting disorders can face serious health issues including death.

Dieting can be dangerous and needs to be taken seriously. Fad diets should be avoided and people with serious weight issues should seek medical help. Successful weight loss will only occur with serious commitment and life style changes.
