Listening to music is not the only thing you can do with your ipod. Ipod offers you much more options. The fact that the ipod is so conveniently portable, has made it the mascot of mass media today. It stands for the tremendous advancement in communication technology in the past few decades. Not just those, with the advent and popularity of ipods, audio books too have become immensely popular. The ipod is the perfect and most pragmatic solution to the problem of portability that was initially associated with audio books. Since ipods are so light and portable, and popular, ipod audio books can be played on ipods, and listened to wherever one wants.

Earlier people used to have issues about the portability of audio books. They thought one could listen to audio books only on ones music system or ones computer from ones home, thus audio books were not mobile enough. But the rise in the sales of ipods (from 8.53 million in the beginning of 2006 to 10 million in 2007) is closely interlinked to the parallel rise in popularity of audio books. Incredible as it may sound, in 2005 the sales of ipods shot up by 50%. This must ...
... be due to the fact that most people realized that since ipods were so mobile, audio books could be transported from one place to other with ease, via ipods.

Today's age of unbelievable work pressure, makes one shuttle to and fro one place to another. One spends a large chunk of one's time traveling to ones workplace and so forth, and this entails being stuck in endless traffic jams. It is very depressing experience, and one can alleviate this dull but unavoidable experience by listening to an audio book of your choice in the music system of ones car. Every car, every home has a music system, or an MP3 player today, or portable MP3 players, which have contributed to the popularity of audio books. You can unwind by listening to a book even while stagnating in a traffic jam. Thus car stereo systems especially are very helpful for audio book sessions, for more people spend a huge amount of time commuting these days.

When you are actually reading a book, in the conventional fashion, there is not much else you can do while reading the book. But audio books are meant to be listened to, and while you listen you can perform other tasks. Increasing work pressure makes most people resort to this more convenient way of gleaning knowledge from books. All kinds of books, fiction, non fiction, business journals, and academic lectures are available in digital audio format. So audio books are available on a wide range of subjects. Most people do not have enough leisure to sit back and enjoy a book, in the traditional manners. Audio books are meant to make the lives of these people easy. One can do the chores of every day life even as one listens to audio books, on the ipod, or elsewhere.
