Pune, a city of many communities and cultures, is the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra. It is a hilly city located among the Sahyadri ranges on the Deccan Plateau at the confluence of the Mula and Mutha rivers. Pune can boast of a rich legacy of history and culture and it has also made its own mark in the field of education, politics and information technology. Pataleshwar Caves, Tilak Museum, Bird Park, Phule Wada, Shaniwarwada, Lal Mahal, Mahalaxmi Temple, Rajiv Gandhi (Katraj) Snake Park, Aga Khan Palace and Osho Garden are some of the interesting places in Pune.

Mumbai - the city of dreams as it is widely known, is on the western coast of the country and is the capital city of the state of Maharashtra. Thousands of students and employment seekers come here for better opportunity or to settle here and the city is roughly estimated to hold about 15 million people. This cosmopolitan metropolis is the financial and commercial capital of the country. There are quite a number of direct trains from Pune to Mumbai. Sinhagad Express (11010), Sahyadri Express (11024), Deccan Queen (12124), Pragati Superfast Express (12126), Mahalaxmi Express (11012), Siddeshwar Express (12116) and Konark Express (11020) are only a few of them. These trains take 3 to 4 hours to reach Mumbai on an average. The trains may halt at Dadar, Vasai Road, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Panvel, Kalyan or Karjat stations in Mumbai.

Pune to Mumbai is 149 kilometres by road which may take around 2 to 3 hours depending on the traffic and road conditions via the Express Highway. Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation runs frequent buses from Pune to Mumbai and the fare is economical. Alternatively, one may also board any of the buses operated by private companies. Their fare may vary according to the type of service provided. There are also taxi services from Pune railway station to Dadar circle in Mumbai. These taxis run round-the-clock and are well suited for group travellers. It is a pleasure to drive from Pune to Mumbai. There are good restaurants and hotels from Khandala to Lonavala or between Panvel and Khopoli where you could stop for refreshment while resting your vehicle.

There are direct flights from Pune to Mumbai which reach within 45 minutes. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the major aerodrome at Mumbai that receives both domestic and international traffic to the city. But considering the number of economical and superfast trains and buses running between these two cities, flight journey would be the least preferred mode of transport. Kapila Hotel Pune and Atithi Hotel Mumbai is there to take rest.
