Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, is the most populous city in India and the fourth most populous city in the world. Mumbai lies on the west coast and has a deep harbour. Mumbai is a group of seven islands. It was home to fishing communities. After the independence, the city was incorporated into Bombay state. In 1996, the city was renamed as Mumbai. The city has many important national institutions in various fields. It attracts migrants from all over India and hence is a melting pot of all communities and cultures. Mumbai is well connected with roads and railways. The local railways are called as the backbone of the city's transport system. The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the main aviation hub in the city and the second busiest airport in India.

Pune is the ninth largest metropolis in India. It is situated 560 meters above sea level on the Deccan plateau at the confluence of the Mula and Mutha rivers. Pune was originally called as Punawadi. One can travel from Mumbai to Pune by road. The distance between Mumbai and Pune is 174 km and takes about 2 hours and 28 minutes by car. There is Bharath Petroleum, HP petrol pumps with good restrooms en route to Pune. There are ATM facilities provided by Corporation bank. There are restaurants like Raj hotel dishing out north Indian delicacies. One has to travel on National Highway 4 while travelling from Mumbai to Pune. There are private taxis providing their services to travellers. The taxi fare ranges from Rs. 3,600 to Rs. 4,500.

There are regular bus services from Mumbai to Pune. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation buses provide bus services from Mumbai to Pune. There are also private operators which run their buses from Mumbai to Pune. The bus fares range from Rs. 450 to Rs. 700 depending Sleeper, non AC and Volvo.

There are regular trains commuting from Mumbai to Pune. Numerous trains like Madurai Express, Intercity Express, Deccan Express and Udyan Express run on all days from Mumbai to Pune. The train fares differ from sleeper coach to AC coaches. It takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes to reach from Mumbai to Pune by train.

A lot of low cost airlines like Jet airways, Kingfisher and SpiceJet provide regular daily services from Mumbai to Pune. It takes about 35 minutes to travel from Mumbai to Pune by flight.Hotel Sunshine Mumbai or Aquarius Resort Pune can be tried for staying.
