The Latest Chevyon The Block:should You Book The Chevrolet Sail Uva?

After the Chevrolet Aveo UVA, which didn’t quite hit the mark in terms of sales figures, GM India is set to launch the Sail under its umbrella of Chevrolet UVA models. Marketed as a premium hatchback, the car is expected to roll out in early 2013.
After being test-driven by a team of motoring experts and journalists, here is the verdict on the upcoming Chevrolet Sail UVA.
The Design
A single glance at the newest Chevrolet UVA is enough to highlight that the car is undoubtedly a ‘chevy’. It may not have the eye-catching looks of the Beat or the Cruze, but the car sure has some character.
The Sail has been able to go against convention and avoid using short, stubby bonnets and a cab-forward design to create one that gives it a more sedan-like character. The long bonnet combined with the square headlights and the classic Chevrolet grill allows the design to stick to its traditional image.
The Interiors
Most Chevrolet UVA reviews ...
... for its latest model will tell you that the car has done very well in this aspect of design. Step into the cabin and you will be introduced to a unique brown-and-beige themed design that evidently showcases an Asian influence. The triangular door handles and kinks over the centre stack of the dashboard add to the quirky nature of its interiors.
The steering wheel is stout and offers a great grip. The car has been able to provide an up-market look by adding two horn buttons on either sides of the centre panel of the steering wheel. The well-padded and comfortable seats, the orange backlit instrument cluster and the information display further add a touch of luxury to the Chevrolet Sail UVA.
Car Performance
This vehicle will be offered with petrol as well as diesel engine variants. The 1248 cc engine is a 4-valves cylinder unit, which works at 1400 bar common rail injection pressure. The engine is a result of a GM-Fiat-Suzuki collaboration and revs easily.
The engine is expected to offer a peak power of 78PS (57.4 kW) at 4000 rmp and its peak torque of 205 Nm may be reached at 1750 rpm.
With expected mileage of 22.1 kmpl in its diesel variant and 18.2 kmplin its petrol one, and a relatively low ownership cost; the latest Chevrolet UVA is expected to be an interesting addition to the hatchback market of India.
