There is a great demand for Christian counsellors these days. Once many horrible things could happen to people and no one ever thought that they should have counselling to help them recover. It was enough to ensure that their physical injuries were seen to. But these days it is recognised that emotional and mental trauma also need attention if their recovery is to be complete.

In fact many traumas do not leave any physical injury, or if they do it is minimal and heals quickly. But the emotional or mental scars are something else again. Often it takes years for people to recover from the emotional or mental effects of some trauma. Being the victim of a hold-up may leave you scared to venture out of your house, even if you were not injured physically.

It may take months or years of counselling for a person to be able to deal with a trauma and lead a normal life once again. Nowadays counsellors are usually overworked and it is quite difficult to get into see one when you really need counselling. Having to wait for months only exacerbates the problem as the new and unwelcome thought patterns ...
... and habits they make become so ingrained.

A person who has not gone outside shopping for six months or a year is far harder to cure than one in whom that behaviour has only been a problem for a month or so. This means that even more counselling sessions are needed and so the system is even more blocked up. But when people do Christian counselling courses they can offer therapy privately which is available outside of the government system and often you can get into such counselling more quickly.

They offer Family counselling too, so that families who are experiencing difficulties with teens or even younger children can get help when they most need it, rather than waiting and suffering. And often by the time it is available from a government counselling service it is far too late to be of any use. The children have left home; the drug taking has become an addiction and the family is likely to have fallen apart by the time they can get into counselling.

So if you or your family need counselling, don’t wait for months to get it, but look around for someone who can offer it right away. You will then be able to get help before it is too late.
