The city of Brussels happens to be the capital of Belgium and is also the de facto capital of the European Union. It is home to many EU institutions and thus is considered the informal capital of Europe as well. It is a small city, but it does boast of some significant architecture and historical buildings. Sadly, much of this was destroyed when Brussels became the capital of the country, but it certainly has enough to keep the travelers interested.

Weather in Brussels

Brussels is not famous for its weather. It is mildly warm during the summers and is always ready for little rain. The rain makes the place feel more damp and cold, than it actually is. It doesn’t snow much in Brussels, but if it does, it starts melting quite rapidly as well, thus making the ground very slippery. Hence, it is better if travelers avoid a winter trip to the city.

Tourist Places Brussels

Brussels has a number of tourist places to keep you interested. Few of these include the Place-Grote Market, Atomium, Mini-Europe and Belgian Comic Strip Centre. The Place-Grote Market houses some of the traditional buildings of Brussels ...
... and the city tower. The music and the light shows add to the attraction. Mini-Europe is home to models of many European buildings and structures and if you are a fan of Tintin, you should not miss the Belgian Comic Strip Centre. Other notable places of interest include Manneken Pis, Royal Museum of Art and History and Museum of the Far East.

Accommodation Brussels

If you are looking for a good accommodation, you may go for Citadines Toison d’Or Brussels, Hotel NH Atlant – 7 Boulevard Adolphe, Louise Hotel Brussels, Stanhope Hotel – Rue du Commerce or the Le Chatelain All Suite Hotel. The best thing about these is the fact that they are located at prime locations and thus you wouldn’t have to travel much for sightseeing. However, if you are looking for a cheaper accommodation, you may even opt for Hotel Jacques Brel or 2Go4 Hostel, situated in the heart of the city.

Places to eat in Brussels

If you love to taste foreign cuisine, then you would surely love Brussels. The innumerable restaurants on either side of the streets would make you wonder where to go for dinner. Maison Antoine, Tapas Locas – Rue March au Charbons, Arcadi – Rue d’Aremberg, Chez Leon – Rue des Bouchers and Du Gulden Boot – 24 Grote Markt are some of the notable restaurants of the city.

Things to do in Brussels

Brussels is home to many small and big architectural wonders. Hence, once you are there, make sure that you visit most of these buildings and structures. The European Centre and the Royal Palace of Brussels are two of these marvels. Others have already been mentioned. The Bozar and the Church of St-Nicholas need special mention as well. The city is famous for its cuisine and beer, so make sure that you get to enjoy all this. However, most of the shops open only after 11 in the morning and remain closed on Sundays and Mondays, thus plan your trip accordingly.
