The original 3 Series saloon E21 was introduced by Bayerische Motoren Werke AG in the year 1975. The factory initially authorised the Stuttgart coach-builder Baur to produce a cabriolet but the E21 was only a two door. After four generations, in the year 1982, the four door estate E30 with 16 valve diesel engine version was introduced with BMW Motorsport performance. Later on in year 1990, came in E36 generation's compact hatchback, as did the 318 TDS with 3 series' first four pot turbo diesel engine. This German compact saloon is a legend to the car cognoscenti's of the UK. The BMW claims to have sold over 12 million of 3 series globally over the span of more than 35 years. BMW offers two petrol variants in the 3 series, a 115bhp four-cylinder 318i which produces 168Nm of torque and emits only 188g/km of carbon and does 0-62mph in just 11.3 seconds. The other one is a 140bhp four-cylinder 318i, producing 180Nm of torque and carbon emissions of 190g/km with 0- 62mph value of just 10.2 seconds. The BMW diesel engine is a 90bhp four-cylinder 318d which is capable of generating 190Nm of torque and emits 172g/km and does 0-62mph in just 14.4 seconds.
