Using Dates To Maximize Results

Have you ever stumbled onto a sales page and thought to yourself, "Something doesn't smell right?" Perhaps it was the color scheme of the sales page, or perhaps the offer didn't directly apply to your needs, maybe it was something anesthetically unpleasing that you just couldn't get over, or MAYBE it was one of the biggest turn offs in a sales page: Sneaky Javascript Tricks. Marketers use them all the time with the intention of tricking prospective customers into buying their product. One of these tricks has to do with setting up a javascript that automatically sets the date of the sales letter to the current date. I don't know about you, but when I see one of these I immediately know it is a trick, and I leave the site. I think you know what I am talking about, but just in case you don't, let me tell you about some of these tricks and how you as a marketer can avoid using them.
First, let's go over some of the reasons why you would not want to use a javascript to set your date automatically. By using a javascript to create "today's date" you are, essentially, telling your prospective that you have created the sales ...
... page on THAT day. This is a problem for several reasons: First of all, when a prospective customer comes to your site and they see that you have implemented one of these javascripts they will probably notice it right away, and thus, not want to continue reading you offer. Because the date is one of the first things a customer sees, you want to make sure it is not a huge deterrent. As a marketer, one of the most important things you have in regards to your customers is trust, and if you lose that trust early it is extremely hard to get back. Think of yourself as a visitor on your own site - if you stumbled in and noticed that the date displayed on the sales letter was dated for today you would be a little suspicious wouldn't you?
I bet you are thinking, "OK, so what's the alternative?" The alternative to having a javascript that automatically displays today's date on your sales letter is to implement a php code that will set the date according to the specific person that visits your site. A php code, such as First Visit allows you to set your date according to when a person first saw your site up to one year. This makes the sales page both relevant and personal for your prospective customers.
Using such a code is a "no brainer" for anyone looking to maximize the potential of their site. Discover how you can implement the extremely useful First Visit code by visiting http://firstvisitscript.com
