Many people would find it quite inconvenient to have to physically use a key to unlock their car doors. This is because Remote Keyless Entry have virtually become the industry standard. Originally, this system was viewed as a high-end option, or a standard on exotic luxury automobiles. However, as the technology became more widespread, it has become an essential component on nearly every car. There are many reasons this is such a convenient system. First, it allows the user to gain entry to the car if the owner's hands are full. Next, it allows much more than just entry and exit to the vehicle. Finally, it is a much more secure feature as opposed to a standard key.
If you purchase a vehicle today, chances are it will come with a keyless entry. If it is an option, it will undoubtedly be ...
... a very low cost extra option. The keyless entry allows you to unlock or lock the car with the push of a button. Often times if you are returning from a store your hands will be occupied carrying multiple bags. Before the days of keyless entry, you would have to either set the bags down in the parking lot, or at the very least, perform a very awkward movement to successfully unlock the car. This headache has been done away with the advent of keyless remote.
Next, most shoppers prefer to place their items in the trunk as opposed to the actual cabin of the vehicle. In the past, the vehicle owner would have to physically access the trunk release mechanism in the car. This is quite a feat to perform with armloads of groceries. As a result, ingenious engineers integrated an electronic release button on the Car keyless remote. As a result, vehicle trunks can now be opened with minimal effort. In addition, the key fob has helped people to remember to actually lock their vehicle when they leave. The act of pushing the button to unlock the car, helps people to remember to push the button again when they leave their cars merely out of habit. Also, many fewer people report locking their keys in the car since the inception of the keyless remotes.
Finally, it is the ultimate in vehicle protection. Most manufacturers have completely integrated the automobile's security system with the locking function. In other words, when an owner locks their car, they are simultaneously arming their vehicle's security system. This is more than just a novelty. It has helped to prevent countless thefts since its initial creation. Also, disarming the system has become just as simple. Unlocking a car via the remote disarms the security system. This seamless dual function would have never been possible with the former key. Also, the chips embedded in the key fob itself is for all practical purposes impossible to replicate. This keeps would-be thieves from copying the code necessary to replicate the system.
The future of keyless may actually serve to render traditional keys obsolete. Because the locks can no longer be picked many automakers will eventually see that it probably makes more sense to simply do away with keys, as a whole. The trend is definitely moving in this direction. In several years, actual keys may be things of the past.
