What is Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine? Methylenedioxymethamphetamine is also known on the streets as Ecstasy, has been corrupting the nations since the early 1980s. MDM is a synthetic drug that have been popular as a “club drug” commonly ingested by young people and is used as a recreational drug. The drug, evidently, creates a hallucinogenic effect very much resembling the “high” that results from mescalin (a hallucinogenic drug derived from mescal buttons).

According to NIDA, a Hational Institute On Drug Abuse:

“MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine) (Ecstasy) is a synthetic, psychoactive drug that is chemically similar to the stimulant methamphetamine and the hallucinogen mescaline. MDMA produces feelings of increased energy, euphoria, emotional warmth, and distortions in time, perception, and tactile experiences.”

The disadvantage of MDMA or Ecstasy use has been reported to lead to clinical depression, confusion, panic attack ,anxiety, and sleep depravations. Other negative side effects of using Ecstasy involve: convulsions, paranoia, psychosis, and potential long-term cognitive impairments ...

Despite the fact that Ecstasy use can result in hallucinogenic manifestations, the drug is ranked as a stimulant.

According to a NIDA, National Institute On Drug Abuse, a National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH)

In 2009, an estimated 760,000 people (0.3 percent of the population) in the United States aged 12 or older used MDMA in the month prior to being surveyed. Lifetime use increased significantly among individuals aged 12 years or older, from 4.3 percent (10.2 million) in 2002 to 5.7 percent (14.2 million) in 2009; however, past-year use of ecstasy decreased from 1.3 percent to 1.1 percent during the same period. Approximately 1.1 million Americans used ecstasy for the first time in 2009, which is a significant increase from the 894,000 first-time users reported in 2008.
