When you find a possible meteorite, look over it carefully for some crystals. These could be diamonds. These are the result of the carbon fish cosmic dust from which these meteors come from.



What you have to keep in mind is that meteorite hunting is a long process and can get tedious. Not always will it yield you positive results. The more you invest in equipment, the more expensive this hobby will become for you.



It is perfectly legal to own a meteorite. If however you find yours on federal land, then it will have to be handed over to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. Anything that is found on private land will be the property of the person who owns the land. There are several adventure meteorite teams that actually seek permission of land owners and go hunting and claim the meteorites for themselves.



When you set out for some meteorite hunting make sure that you have the necessary tools and also be sure that you have the necessary experience or the person who has the experience with you. It makes the whole deal a bit safer.
