How To Spot Bogus Furniture Transport Companies

There are so numerous rogue furniture transport companies operating in Australia. Most are fly-by-night operators with no permits and no other investment other than their glib tongue and a very attractive website. Others are acting as middle men who go out to negotiate with homeowners then endorsing the task to the local moving company while they run away with their commissions. It’s important that you recognise the red flags so you can decide when it’s best to get out of a potentially bad deal.
No ocular inspection
In order to continue with the ruse, the moving company will do everything to close the deal over the phone asking you to just transfer your money through bank-to-bank transaction. They will say every excuse in the book if you happen to ask to visit their office in order to inspect their facilities and manpower. In like manner, they will promise to send over a team of inspector to your house once you already “paid” your deposit.
Every bogus Vehicle Transport company will quote a price well below ...
... the industry standard so when you already talked to two or three other movers, you are likely to be duped by the very cheap price. This is especially tempting in today’s difficult economic conditions where everybody is penny-pinching to stretch the household budget.
Everything is in cash
Every transaction is in cash which makes it harder to come up with a paper trail with which to pin them down. Moving companies are expected to send over a book containing your rights and responsibilities as a client. But most people don’t know about this without making their own research before actually contacting a mover. Also, they don’t know that you are not required to give a deposit even before the company has sent in its team to assess your needs and make a quotation.
The fact is, there are Cheap Furniture Removalists out there who are also legitimate and comply with the standards set by industry associations, regulatory bodies and the state or district law. Had they done their research, they would know that the company should have information about the insurance or licensing in its own website. Don’t believe them when they make a sweeping claim that they have insurance without ever giving any proof.
Where’s the truck?
So when a truck that is obviously rented arrives on moving day, you can opt not to load your things on the vehicle. It’s almost certain that when one of your valuables goes missing or your furniture breaks during transport, you won’t be covered by insurance. Chances are, the furniture transport company you talked to has outsourced the task to a sub-contractor. You are going to have a hard time collecting remuneration in case of damage.
