Water Scientifically it is defined as H20 - a chemical compound consisting of one hydrogen atom and two oxygen atoms. Realistically, though the water that you drink every day, at home, at the gym, at work, outside, wherever you may be, is made up of a lot more than these two basic elements. The water that you drink actually contains many different compounds, depending on where you live and your water source. Some communities, for example, add fluoride which is a type of ion. With fluoride, communities have a set amount that they add to their water treatment process to help prevent tooth decay in children. A Water Quality Analysis can show if there are minerals like calcium and magnesium in a water supply. Calcium and magnesium are particularly found in groundwater and create what is often referred to as “hard water” which is usually treated with a water softener.
Some people may make the mistake of thinking that just because something is natural that means that it is good for us. This is not the case. In fact there are several ...
... natural elements than can be found in water supplies which are unsafe and pose a serious health threat to the people who use the water supply. Testing water quality can show if there is fecal coliform bacteria (the scientific term to refer the bacteria found in an animal’s intestinal tract) in a water supply. These contaminants may be found in the natural world, but in drinking water, even in microscopic amounts, they can pose a serious health risk for people.
For anyone who gets water from groundwater or another private source of water, one that isn’t monitored by an EPA-regulated water treatment facility, the risk of contamination is much higher. While there is the risk of contamination with any water source, with private sources there are no standard regulations to check to make sure your water is safe to drink. Essentially every time you drink some water, or even water your garden with your water source, you are putting your life in danger. Contaminated water can—and does—cause illness and even death.
Drinking contaminated water isn’t some inevitable and unavoidable factor of life. Today you can get your water tested simply by purchasing a water quality testing kit online. You take a sample of your water and a testing company processes it in the lab and sends you back the result of your water quality analysis. Best of all you’re not required to be a scientist or a health professional to start testing water quality. You can ensure your water supply isn’t contaminated and won’t expose you or your loved ones to unnecessary risks and health concerns.
