Hot tub maintenance is not something that most people consider or take into account when they go out and buy a hot tub. However, it is very important and should be something that you take into account.

The Importance of Hot Tub Maintenance

It is important for three main reasons. Good hot tub maintenance will ensure that your hot tub remains in good working condition for as long as possible. The better your tub is maintained the more efficiently it will work. This can save you a great deal of money in terms of power consumption.

The third reason to maintain your hot tub properly is health reasons. Warm water is potentially an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Much of this bacterium is harmless, but some of it is potentially bad for human health.

Your Hot Tub Maintenance Routine

The best approach to maintaining your hot tub is to do it on a regular basis. If you set up a maintenance routine and stick to it rigidly, you can be sure that your hot tub is maintained properly and always safe to use. If you just do it as and when you will inevitably end up not doing it regularly enough, always finding ...
... an excuse and putting it off.

Luckily maintaining a hot tub is not complicated, a five year old could do it. However, because it involves chemicals it is important that an adult actually carry out the maintenance. You need to get the ph balance right; once you have, you need to use bromine tablets, spa shock, ph increaser and ph decreaser to keep the water right. Most of the time all you have to remember to do is to add bromine tablets to your hot tub once a week. If you use it a lot you may need to increase the frequency. Periodically you should test the PH and adjust it accordingly using the PH increaser or decreaser.

About once a year, you will need to get rid of any scale. Hot tub maintenance need not take any more than 30 minutes each week. You also need to clean the filter periodically.
