Travel Safe- Check Pnr Status Before Boarding The Train
Any passenger, who is a regular in making online reservations, will know the three types of ticket status upon reservation. They are confirmed, RAC and WL. Passengers holding tickets with a confirmed status will definitely get a berth to travel. RAC stands for Reservation against cancellation and WL stands for WaitList. The passengers holding these tickets will have to check PNR status later to know the new status of their ticket.
Passengers with an RAC ticket can travel on the train; however, there is no guarantee of a berth. They can travel by sitting on one of the side seats. WL passengers can board the train but it does not guarantee them a seat/berth. In case there are sufficient numbers of cancellations, there are high chances of the RAC getting to the confirmed stage and the WL getting to the RAC stage. In such cases, the RAC ticket status, while checking for the PNR, will read thus- RAC 23/CNF. It means that at the time of booking, the ticket status stood at RAC 23 and because of sufficient number of cancellations, it now stands at the confirmed stage.
If the passenger modifies the details of an existing ...
... ticket or cancels the same, the status of that particular PNR will read as CAN/MOD. If the status reads as RLWL (Remote location wait list), it means that there are several people waiting for that particular train from a remote location. There are almost no or minimal means of transport for these people, hence, they will receive priority over the others. RELEASED status means that the passengers will receive an alternative accommodation, without cancelling the said ticket.
With the introduction of a service called as the “PayMate”, the passengers can now view the PNR status on their mobile phones too. All those phones, which have Java and GPRS enabled can access this facility. The passengers can download the “PayMate” software free of cost and they will have to undergo a one-time registration process. For those passengers with a basic phone and those who prefer the SMS method of enquiry, they have to send an SMS to 57886 along with enquiry code to get the required information.
The passengers can check PNR status from their landline phone number too. By dialling the enquiry number, which is 139, the passengers should wait until automated voice asks them to enter the 10-digit unique number that is on the right hand top corner of the ticket. They should key in the number on the handset (without spaces) and the automated voice will give the new status within minutes. Every passenger should check the status of the ticket before boarding the train for the journey.
