There are various moments in life which come once in a lifetime. Although every beloved event is safely stored in the mind, the mind is not eternal and nor are the memories. The need to immortalize every cherished instant and treasured occasion had given rise to cameras. With the advent of technology, functions and utilities of cameras got enhanced. The recent digital cameras are a rage; and, they are the favorites of both professional and casual photographers.
The choice of the brands, models and features of the digital camera solely depends on your discretion. This article is more about the basic factors you need to keep in mind while buying a digital camera.
Following are the basic factors which might come in handy to make you choose the best camera for yourself:
• Decide What You Need: Most of the digital camera buyers do not determine their requirements before they buy the cameras. It is seen that the cameras they end up buying often are beyond what they really need. Therefore, ask yourself a few questions before you go to buy the camera –
I. What is your budget?
II. Do you have prior experience ...
... with a digital camera?
III. Do you want to use the camera casually or want to sincerely learn the art of photography?
IV. What are your preferred subjects (landscapes or portraits) and in what conditions do you prefer photographing (outdoor or indoor; bright or low light)?
V. Which are the features that you desire in camera?
With all these predetermined when you visit the store, you will be in a much better situation to pick what is good for you.
• High Megapixels are Not Always Good: Most of us have the habit of buying digital cameras with superior megapixel capacity. Most of the cameras these days come with megapixel capacity higher than 4. Therefore, if you are just a casual photographer, you generally do not require anything more than 5 megapixels. Moreover, higher megapixel pictures take enormous space in the memory cards and are not essential unless you want a large high-quality printout.
• Always Go for Optical Zoom: When you will go to buy the cameras and scan through various models, you will see that there are two kinds of zooms – first is the “digital zoom” and the second is the “optical zoom”. It is highly advisable that you go for the ones which have optical zooms. Digital zoom simply enlarges the pixels in the shot. This makes the subject look bigger, but the clarity and quality of the picture drops due to decreased resolution.
• The Extras: There are various equipments that are necessary for your camera to work properly and to keep it safely. Often, necessary equipments like memory card, batteries, battery charger, USB cord, and camera case, are included in the package. However, you need to think about your budget if you want to buy reflectors, lenses (in case of DSLRs), and external flashes.
• Buy a Digital Photography Book A camera is useless unless you learn to utilize it to its full capacity. Make sure that you buy a book which has all the basic details about photography. Digital photography books come in handy to understand the operations of the digital camera and techniques to take good pictures. These books are not only available in the camera stores but also in most corporeal and online bookstores.
