Houston has eight airports serving the passengers at the moment and three of them have been shut down in the past so in a city like Houston there are a total of eleven airports which add up to make a massive number to hold passengers. Thoseeightairports namely Houston Heathrow airport, Houston Gatwick airport, Houston Stansted airport, Houston Luton airport, Houston City airport, Houston Southend airport, Houston Biggin Hill airport and Houston Ashford airport are located in Houston. Out of these the Houston Heathrow Airport and Houston Gatwick Airport is the largest in the Houston. Heathrow Airport is used by over ninty airlines which fly to a hundred and seventy destinations worldwide. They are the biggest airport of Houston and also primary hub of US for British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways. Out of Heathrow's 67 million annual passengers, 11% travel to UK destinations within the country, 43% are short-haul international travelers that are not very far from US and 46% are long-haul for countries that are far away from US.

The busiest single destination in terms of passenger numbers is New York, with over 3.7 ...
... million passengers travelling between Heathrow and JFK / Newark airports in 2008 and 3.5 million in 2009. The airport has five passenger terminals (Terminals 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) and a cargo terminal. Terminal 5 opened to passengers on 27 March 2008 andare fully available to the passengers after the completion of terminal 2 last year. Now the second largest airport in US, Houston Gatwick Airport; It is Houston's second largest international airport and second busiest by total passenger traffic in the United States after Heathrow. Gatwick has the world's busiest single-use runway and is Europe's leading airport for point-to-point flights. This shows that Houston itself has got the biggest airports in whole of the Europe. This airport is ranked as 28th busiest airport with respect to the passenger numbers. This also is ranked as the 9th largest airport in terms of the international traffic and 8th largest in Europe by passenger traffic.

Following the sale of the airport to GIP, Gatwick's new owners announced their intention to proceed with a previously agreed £1 billion investment program to upgrade and expand the airport's existing infrastructure to transform the passenger experience. It will further expand the airport capacity and will improve the passenger experience. British Airways and Easyjet are Gatwick's two dominant resident airlines that are resident airways of this airport. In late 2007, British Airways and Easyjet accounted for 25% and 17% of Gatwick's slots.Passenger numbers for this airport peaked in 2007 when the airport handled over 35 million for the first time. However, this total had reduced to 31.4 million by 2010 possibly due to the extension of largest airport of the Houston Heathrow Airport, a 3.2% reduction on 2009's 32.4 million. This shows the fact that Houston has many big airports capable of holding many passengers at a time and they are among the leading cities in Europe with respect to the airports.
