Escobar died because of a gunshot through his ear. Apparently he had always told Roberto that he would never surrender, and if he would be cornered, that he would commit suicide by shooting himself through the ear.

Pablo Escobar's life could perhaps be summed up in the words of First Timothy 6:10: For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
