The love of horses and horse riding is often something inculcated from a young age. This is why it is important to choose the right horse when introducing a beginner to the world of horses. When you look for beginner horses for sale in Vic or consider beginner horses for sale in Victoria Park, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind so that you do not end up with a horse that will frighten or intimidate beginners.

Choosing a good beginner horse can be a difficult task, because learning to ride a horse is difficult enough with a good beginner horse, and a spirited horse can make learning to ride an absolute nightmare for beginners. This means choosing a horse with the right temperament.

Contrary to what some people might think, horses have individual personalities just like human beings do. Some horses are friendly and want to help new riders learn while other horses are aggressive and need to be treated firmly by experienced riders. Of course, the best person to tell you exactly what kind of temperament and personality a horse has is the owner who has watched and raised the horse.

Besides the ...
... opinion of the horse owner, you can also observe a horse’s temperament personally. Pay close attention when you first approach the horse. A good horse for a beginner should not react either with fright or aggression. An overly nervous horse can be just as bad as an aggressive horse, because a nervous horse can be panicked easily and toss an inexperienced rider.

The best way to be sure beyond doubt that a horse will be good for a beginner is to find a horse that has been used to teach beginners before. A mature, experienced horse will often do as much to teach a beginner to ride as you or an instructor might do. At a minimum, however, the horse should be comfortable being handled and when being groomed. This will make it easy not only for the beginner to learn to ride, but also to learn to care properly for horses.

There is also a question of fit. Whereas experienced riders can ride a wide variety of horses of different shapes, sizes and temperaments and be comfortable, a beginner needs a horse suited to their particular size. A younger rider should not attempt to learn on a large horse, and likewise an adult learner should hardly be learning to ride on a pony. Learning on a suitably sized horse will help to build a beginner rider’s confidence and help them develop a good relationship with the horse.

If you keep these things in mind when looking at beginner horses for sale in Vic or beginner horses for sale in Victoria Park, it will make the task of picking the right horse that much simpler. This way, the chances of you returning home with a horse that will discourage beginners are much slimmer.
