Generally, in Christian Culture, cremation had been discouraged by the clergy people because of resurrection especially Roman Catholics. They have a strong belief in resurrection as Jesus. In 18th century and later, there was a movement for pro-cremation by the Christian people but the Roman Catholic Clergy strongly suppressed. From then the sentiment within the Catholic Church against cremation became hardened in the face of the association of cremation with professed with enemies of God. In course of decades, Catholic Cremation Rules had been softened in 1960s. The Catholic Church still officially prefers the traditional burial of the deceased, but cremation is now permitted as long as it is not done to express refusal to believe in the resurrection of the body. In 1997, Catholic Cremation Rules again softened by the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
