The Catholic Church still officially prefers the traditional burial of the deceased, but cremation is now permitted as long as it is not done to express refusal to believe in the resurrection of the body. In 1997, Catholic Cremation Rules again softened by the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
