Popularly seen as the Mumbai police patrol car, this robust and sturdy utility vehicle has been on the Indian roads for more than a decade now and has undergone substantial upgradation. Being a widely preferred utility vehicle, the Bolero enjoys massive sales both in the new and used car segment. It is also one of the most desired transport vehicles to be hired due to its excellent performance experienced by people on long journeys.

What many of us may find mind-boggling is that number of models available from a single sub-brand itself! There are five variants – DI, Plus, SLE, SLX and ZLX, with two models each adding up to ten models of the Mahindra Bolero, currently on market.

Why so many variants?

Here’s a simple explanation. Mahindra has been the only brand of utility vehicles to successfully satisfy the Indian need of affordability combined with performance, durability on the flawed roads and rugged terrain and easy maintenance. The diesel-fueled Bolero is probably the most accepted utility vehicle in the ...
... past decade and its users are varied. Hence the variants start from the simple DI and Plus variants which are somewhat similar with a few differences. Similarly the other three variants are similar coming close to an SUV.

The sophistication of features goes on increasing with every variant listed above in the ascending order and so does the price. The overall price range is Rs. 5.51 - Rs. 7.05 lakhs with the ZLX variant being on top, turning into a full-fledged SUV by then. This way Mahindra gets to completely cater to a large market demanding utility vehicles by providing sufficient choice in features, technology incorporated, style factor, size and price.

The Bolero Variations

After receiving both promising and suggestion-filled Mahindra Bolero reviews, the company decided to make some serious upgradation from its initial GLX series and thus today we have the DI and Plus series. Hawk-eye headlamps, muscular bumpers and fascia and side ventilators characterize the Di series. The DI and Plus have a 2523 cc DI turbo diesel delivering a 180Nm torque whereas the SLE, SLX and ZLX have a 2523 CC m2DiCR Engine delivering a 195 Nm torque.

The suspension and the ground clearance get better with the higher variants although all of them are equipped with hydraulic clutch. The comfort, convenience and entertainment features are certainly more in the latter three series. Amongst prominent features, the engine immobilizer which is a defense mechanism against theft is introduced in the SLE series whereas the keyless entry is available SLX series onwards. The micro-hybrid technology that puts the engine on standby when it’s on neutral to save fuel and reduce emissions, is brought in the ZLX series which is a complete SUV.

The Bolero thus certainly ensures a good and fair deal to anyone who’s a potential user and makes an lasting impression with its authoritative bold stance.
