As a SharePoint consultant, the moment I ask my clients the question if they are aware that SharePoint workflow can boost their productivity, nine out of 10 times the response I get is not even surprise but rather a blank look. Organizations at large are quite familiar with SharePoint application and they are aware that it can help them tremendously, even though when it comes to the actual application, they are wary of using it. However, where SharePoint workflow is concerned, many organizations are not actually aware of how to implement SharePoint workflow and how it is the best tool to track the progress of a particular project.
I can guarantee the moment companies understand the essence of using SharePoint workflow; they will automatically witness a drastic change in the kind of results that are produced. However, before we discuss how SharePoint workflow can have an amazing effect on the overall productivity of the organization, lets understand what workflows exactly do?
Workflow – Definition
If I had to explain in the simplest way then I would say that the word workflow could be broken into work ...
... and flow. When we look at these two words separately we know it means the flow at which work is being done. We can only know the flow at which the work is being done when try and track the workflow and the tracking would obviously start at the initial stage and lead to the end. This is the simple definition, now we will apply the definition of SharePoint workflow to an organization.
Through SharePoint development companies can create collaborative solutions that enable sharing of data and information across teams and employees. A SharePoint workflow would help employees and management within a company to decide on a business process and then create an audit trail for it, which can easily be verified and tracked at any given moment during the process. Undoubtedly, when a SharePoint workflow is created, employees tend to become more productive because they aware of the complete process from the beginning to the end and exactly know how to manage any kind of fluctuations.
Benefits of workflow
Chalk out the complete roadmap: SharePoint workflow helps in chalking out the complete roadmap. With a SharePoint workflow, employees will exactly know where the process starts and where the process will culminate.
Prevents fluctuations: SharePoint workflows help in preventing different kinds of work fluctuations that may occur during the implementation of the project because employees and management will be able to track any kind of work volume fluctuations and take the necessary steps.
Efficient execution: SharePoint workflows help in efficient execution, as it helps in breaking down the business process in steps, actions and events. It is possible to also measure performance through SharePoint workflow in a more accurate manner.
I have highlighted just some of the reasons on why SharePoint workflow is a powerful instrument through which dynamic changes can be brought in any company and how it can enhance the overall productivity.
