Mahindra Quanto – The First Compact Suv!
Mahindra and Mahindra are known to be the finest utility vehicle makers for the Indian masses. This September, 2012 saw yet another innovation from them – a compact sports utility vehicle (SUV)! We all know how SUVs and compactness don’t really go together. But then the Indian city traffic does call out for interior space and capacity without occupying much of the on-road space.
This tricky balance seems to be successfully delivered by the Quanto as can be concluded from the encouraging Mahindra QuantoReviews read and heard all over the place. Whoever has used it, owner or not, is happy. Why? Let’s get into the details.
Compact yet Spacious
It is a good combination of an SUV and a hatchback. It is the only vehicle on road to have a 5 + 2 seating design within the sub 4m class of cars which means it has a sub 4 meter length to justify its compact size while still seating seven people although the third level of packed seats can be folded for accommodating luggage. Like compact cars it has a small turning radius ...
... presenting good maneuverability on city roads while the seats are slightly elevated than usual for better height and visibility. Available in six shades, the vehicle has a box structure but a sporty stance, the signature Mahindra grille, a robust design and a spare stepney to add to its weekender look.
Mileage Performance with Affordability
There are four variants currently available – C2, C4, C6 and C8, the last one being the best variant loaded with features. The performance is driven by the 1.5 litre mCR100 engine which delivers 100bhp and 240 Nm torque. Its twin stage turbochargers ensure a high fuel efficiency of 13-17 kmpl, for an SUV without compromising on the superior performance expected out of such vehicles. Then there’s Mahindra’s micro hybrid technology that puts the engine on standby a couple of seconds after shifting to neutral and racing back to life on hitting the clutch which amount to fuel savings and lower emissions. All this in a range of six to eight lakhs has made the Indian audience review it as a worthwhile luxury.
Safety and Smart Detailing
The dual airbags in the front, the Intellipark reverse assist, the drivers assist system, the engine immobilizer to prevent wrong keys from accessing the car and fog lamps form the safety package offered insideMahindra Quanto. But what’s really impressive is the smart detailing such as rear wash and wiper, mobile charging points, under seat storage, foldable snack trays, bottle holders, foldable armrests and, side and rear steps with puddle lamps for the non-jumpers. This tells us something – Mahindra has been listening to the people.
How many times have we thought of having easy access storage right under the seat or a small platform to keep food during long journeys! Here’s an SUV that not only fits easily on the road but also with our smallest needs.
