Lagos: Wednesday, November 14, 2012 - first city monument Bank Plc (FCMB) has donated the sum of N25million towards alleviating the suffering of flood victims in five states across Nigeria. The beneficiaries of the donation, which was made through the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, include victims of the flood disaster in Kogi, Delta, Plateau, Bayelsa and Rivers states. The bank’s gesture is meant for the procurement of relief materials by the Red Cross for distribution to the flood victims, who suffered devastating losses including lives, properties and farmlands. In addition to the donation, FCMB staff members are providing volunteer services and working with the Nigerian Red Cross Society to provide logistics support where required across the affected states.vMaking the donation to the Red Cross in Lagos on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, FCMB’s Executive Director, Olufemi Bakre, stated that the contribution was meant to complement the efforts of government in providing relief to victims of the flood and resettling ...
... them as soon as possible."Given the enormity of the disaster and destruction of lives and property left in the wake of the flood, FCMB wishes to identify with the people of Nigeria and assist in ameliorating the plight of victims of the disaster. No amount of relief can make up for what has been lost to the flood, but the gesture will bring a certain degree of succor to the families affected. We are touched by the pains and grief the victims are going through as a result of the disaster", he said.Bakre added that, "We believe that communities should benefit from our presence especially at times like this. Our ongoing CSR journey ensures that our actions transcend cultural barriers whilst addressing social and economic challenges. We have impacted several lives through our CSR programmes".Receiving the donation on behalf of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Lagos State Branch Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross, Mr. Onibudo Mobolaji Ola, commended FCMB for the kind gesture. He assured that the donation will be judiciously and transparently utilized for the purpose for which it was made.He also urged other multinationals and corporate organizations in the country to emulate the good example of the bank.
