Application From Websiteam To Collect Data About Music Cds

WebSiteam introduces an update of its software that provides for accessing album and musician information stored at freedb.org database. With FDBGrabber you can sort the collected information by artist, year, genre etc. and save it locally for future reference.
If you're searching for a complete discography of a band or a singer that you have run across accidentally or want to be sure whether the discography of albums by your favorite artist is full FDBGrabber might be of use to you. This software retrieves information from freebd and delivers it to your desktop. Freebd is a big internet database to browse for CD information. All the information distributed on freebd service is subject to GPL, which means it's costs nothing.
FDBGrabber does the search by performer or by album and displays the data in a sortable list of expandable items representing bands/singers or names of albums correspondingly. The program includes ‘search within results' feature allowing to find a particular musician or an album/song title by entering and submitting it in the corresponding field. The collected CD results can be stored ...
... in a native format or stored as an RTF file, which is handy indeed.
Now for the drawbacks. The information in freedb database is supplied by lots of common users so erroneous items are unavoidable. Freedb staff make use of automated tools to work with them, however, as they put it in their own words, they can't guarantee that all supplied information is correct. This leads to duplicate entries, names confusion, and even typos in the musician's names. While it's no doubt that it's freedb.org not the software developer who should cope with the issue, it can't spare FDBGrabber users the inconvenience of choosing between ‘RHCP' and ‘Red Hot Chili Peppers' or ‘Nirvana' and ‘Nirvanna'.
Still, FDBGrabber is a useful tool for collecting quick information about musical CDs. Exporting feature provides for sharing of the results with others and creating discography for reference. The software is a lightweight one, needs no installation, and provided at no cost.
There's also a build for portable devices titled FDBMobile which has the same practicability and features except for saving as RTF.
