Cheap travel options, be they cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, or cheap vacation packages mean that now is a great time for amusement park enthusiasts to make plans to visit some of the country’s top parks.

The following parks are highly recommended by the website Family Vacation Critic:

• Bush Gardens in Tampa Bay, FL and Williamsburg, VA, offer super fast, super high, and super curvy coasters along with a couple of junior coasters for younger kids. They also sport breathtaking water rides.

• Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH, is home to one of the world’s largest amusement parks, with 75 rides and 17 roller coasters. Visitors twist, turn, drop, plunge, loop, swing and race nonstop.

• Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY is a short train ride from New York City and is home to one of America’s oldest amusement parks. Its most famed roller coaster is the Cyclone which has been delighting riders since 1927.

• The Boardwalk in Hersheypark, Hershey, PA features seven heart stopping thrill rides as well as four other less chilling levels of coaster rides. The park caters to height ...
... challenged kids who are often turned away from the most exciting rides. Water rides, family rides and kiddie rides make Hersheypark fun for everyone.

• Islands of Adventure at Universal in Orlando, FL, appeals to the “tween and teen” crowd that has no interest in kiddie rides. The park includes plenty of scream inducing rides, such as roller coasters that go from 0 to 40 mph in two seconds to Doctor Doom’s Fearfall. It also offers more family and young child friendly rides.

• King Island in Mason, OH, is home to the “Beast,” the world’s longest (7,400 feet) wooden roller coaster which is spread out over 35 wooded acres. Thrill seekers will be challenged by inversions, suspensions, catapults, high speeds and dizzying heights by other rides at this park.

• Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA, is great for young children who will find many cartoon characters and rides designed to appeal just to them. The same park draws thrill seekers with rides such as the “Rip Tide” where riders are taken 59 feet in the air and then turned head over heels. Another ride called the “Supreme Scream” drops riders 254 feet.

• Six Flags can be found across the country and is known for its fear inspiring roller coasters.
