When documents and company data need to translated, using a professional service may seem like an unnecessary expense. This may be true if you only need a brief email translated, but definitely not if you are dealing with business documents, reports of anything that will be printed. As simple mistakes and misinterpretations could cost your business.

Translation is a complex affair and needs to be approached with due care and attention in order to avoid poor results. Before starting a project that involves translation, consider the following common thoughts people have about translation services.

"It's ok, I will translate it on the internet"
Online translation software will never be able to translate documents with 100 percent accuracy. Some can and do provide brief translations that will give you the gist of what has been written, but these services are limited and will not deliver accurate results. This is because computers do not understand dialects, sentence construction, how language is used, the subtleties within it and the ever changing use of it.

"I know a language, I can translate this"
...
... This is very common misconception about translation. Being able to read, speak and write a foreign language does not give anyone the ability to undertake translation work. Firstly, a translator needs to have a proper, in-depth and fluent understanding of at least two languages: a foreign language and a mother tongue language. Secondly, translating is a skill and takes much practice, especially when dealing at a business level. You must be able to write well and have an excellent command of linguistic nuances. Language is all the more complex due to cultural influences. You may be able to interpret, but you may not realise that what you are saying is derogatory or written in the wrong context.

"Translation is simple, why would I pay for it"
Translation is not easy, it's good translators who make it look easy. It can be very intricate, complex and painstaking work. It requires a great deal of concentration and patience, as well as a keen eye for detail. Translation is also mentally exhausting; this is because a translator is continuously moving between two languages and two mind frames. A translator must first read and register source information then manage to digest it and present it accurately in the language required.

"Having a professional service for translation is expensive"
This is not actually the case and many will be surprised at how reasonably priced most professional services are. For what you get in return, it is a very cost effective method of translating documents for your business. For peace of mind and expert translation this should be a decision that isn't too difficult to make.

These common thoughts can effect your better judgement, I strongly recommend you ignore them and do the right thing. Get a profissional translator, they are much more effective.
