5 Popular Myths About Directory Submissions
Whenever Google updates come up, it's almost always a certainty that people will change their linking strategies. And every time people rethink or reconsider their linking strategies, one of the most common questions that they ask themselves is "Do directory submissions still offer any value?"
If this is a question that you often ask yourself then you will first need to learn a few things about directory submissions. In doing so you will be able to separate the myths from the facts, and thus arrive to an informed and satisfying answer.
Myth 1: Directory links are worthless
Truth: It's true that directory links have taken a backseat role in recent years. However, to say that they are completely useless is not an accurate assessment either. If this were the case then high ranking sites that still engage in directory submissions wouldn't be able to get the high ranks that they often have.
Also, websites which have well established backlink profiles, and which did not target any specific set of terms, have attained high ranks by engaging in directory ...
... submission. So in any case, it's hard to argue against the fact that directory submissions are one of most important linking strategies around.
Myth 2: Too many directory links can harm your website's success
Truth: Link diversity is important. Not only does it impress the search engines, it also offers great results. However, it's also important to remember that websites which only have one type of link are not just suspicious; they are also blatantly flaunting the rules of SEQ.
What this basically means is that having too many directory links isn't really bad for your site. It only becomes a bad thing if directory links are the only type of links found in your site. So don't be afraid to have as many of them as you like.
Myth 3: Manual submissions are less efficient and productive than automated directory submissions
Truth: Although automated link building Services may seem tempting to a lot of people, they are not the kind of tools that you'd want to use extensively. The idea of getting your site submitted to thousands of directories in a few minutes may seem like a great thing, but they do have their flaws as well.
First of all, they won't submit your site to the best categories. Secondly, automated directory software is not designed to recognize directory submission guidelines, and some of your submissions may be denied as a rest. And finally, most types of directory submission software are limited to non-captcha sites, which mean that they can only be used on with sites which do not require captcha verification, and they usually tend to be trashy. So considering all these weaknesses, manual submission is still a lot better than using automated submission software.
Myth 4 the benefits of directory links are temporary
Truth: The lifespan of directory links are dependent on the kind of directory you wish to submit your links to. Most directories give out links that will never disappear as long as the directory remains online. On the other hand, directories which do remove links, will only remove them if the site themselves no longer exist or if the site has not had any activity after a given period of time. So generally speaking, the answer is no, directory links are not temporary.
Myth 5: Directories with low page ranks (PR) are completely worthless
Truth: Like most things on the internet, a website's page rank (PR) changes all the time. A directory that has a page rank of 1 or 2 on a given day can have a page rank of 5 or 6 a couple of months from now. When these low PR directories begin to get higher page ranks they will begin charging money for their services.
So even if you do submit your site to low PR directories, there's still a good chance that one of the directories you submitted your links to will gain a higher PR in the near future. And when that day comes, you'll be glad that you took the time to submit them.
These are 5 of the most common misconceptions that you'll ever hear about directory submissions. The point in all of this is that despite the changes that have happened over the year, manual directory submission is still a relevant and practical linking strategy.
