Smallwood Lock Supply Door Closers
A door closer is a spring-loaded hydraulic device that closes a door automatically. This mechanical device prevents a door from standing open or slamming into the door frame, while opening and closing the door. These devices are mostly useful for fire doors, which need to be closed in case of fire, to prevent the spread of fire and smoke. These devices are also used in maintaining average cooling temperatures so that the cooler or warm air inside the room or area does not vent out. These can be found on the doors of convenience stores, schools, public buildings, etc.
Types of Door Closers:
Door Closers are of manual and automatic type. Manual door closers store the energy used in opening that door and use the same energy, with the help of a spring, to close the door. One can control the speed at which manual closers operate with the help of an oil-filled hydraulic or a spring mechanism. The speed at which the door travels at along the first two thirds of its travel and is often set slower than the latch speed is known as sweep speed. One can opt for a ...
... delayed action closer for openings where a much longer close time is desired. Automatic door closers are also known as "door openers" as they have a combined ability to close and open a door. An Automatic door closer is capable of opening or closing a door automatically via remote access control, or through use of motion sensors.
Surface mounted & Concealed door closers:
Door Closers can be further categorized into surface mounted or concealed door closers. Surface mounted door closers have four variations slide-track arm, regular arm surface mounted, parallel arm surface mounted, and top jamb mounted. Relatively inexpensive and easy to install, Surface mounted door closers do not need any special preparation in installation and can be mounted in standard, top jamb or parallel arm configurations. Concealed door closers are always used with a ‘double acting’ door that swings both ways, and are often used in high traffic areas of a building such as the front door of a large office building. These closers mount in the floor directly under the pivot point or are mounted inside a pocket in the door frame and are completely concealed.
All door closers must be tested and certified under ANSI Standards for their versatility and durability.
