Audi A4 B6 Engine's Tendency Towards Electronic Glitches

Based on the Volkswagen Group's B6 platform, the new A4 debuted in the year 2000. A4's new styling was inspired by the Audi A6, but it claimed huge success. Most of the petrol engines; either had a power upgrade or the displacement increased, but the base model's 1.6-litre engine remained intact. There were two versions of 1.8-litre Turbo with 20-valve engines available; a 1.8-litre with 148 hp and the other one is a 1.8-litre with 178 hp, these engines come with standard six-speed manual gearbox. The naturally aspirated 1.8-litre inline 4-cylinder and a 2.8-litre V6 engines were replaced by the 2.0-litre and a 3.0-litre all-aluminum engine with 217 hp and 300 Nm of torque.

The 1.9-litre TDI engine had an upgrade and received 128 hp and Pumpe Duse technology and permanent quattro all-wheel drive, whereas the 2.5-litre V6 TDI received 178 hp and quattro as a standard. Rear to front dynamic torque distribution ratio was of 50:50 in this generation, it also was equipped with Bosch ESP 5.7 system, brake assist, anti-lock braking system and electronic brake-force ...
... distribution. In year 2002 the 1.8-litre TDI engines received a power upgrade; a 148 hp engine became 161 hp, and a 178 hp engine became 187 hp engine. All of these engines were available with quattro. There was a 2.0-litre engine which was available with Fuel Startified Injection (FSI).

Audi took a huge step a year later and reintroduced Audi Avant S4, only this time it was powered by a monstrous 4.2-litre V8 engine with 339 hp, and A4 Cabriolet convertible, this time it replaced the 1998 discontinued Audi Cabriolet. It featured and electro-hydraulic operated roof which can be lowered within 30 seconds, and the lower bumpers and sills were also body-coloured giving it a new style. Audi has the honour of introducing a new gearbox named as multitronic which was actually continuously variable gearbox and was developed by LuK. It replaced the old-fashioned automatic gearbox on front wheel drive vehicles, and was praised by the automotive press. It eventually proved itself to be the world's best gearbox due to the promptness in response and being light weight.

Although, this high strength chain-driven gearbox was made from highly durable metals and utilised a purpose-designed, optimised grade, fully synthetic lubricant, yet there have been a lot of complaints all around the world that it had mechanical problems and the gearbox tend to electronic glitches. Audi borrowed a lot of styling from the Asian and European manufacturers and redesigned the boot, the top edge's extensions were removed and smooth front line came in, the rear lamp assemblies were formed as a part of top line, giving it a more aerodynamic look. Over all these year, the Audi A4 B6 engines evolved so much, became more practical and fuel efficient. The range consists of the following petrol units: There is a 101 hp 4-cylinder 1.6-litre.

There are two engines of 2.0-litre; a 134hp 4-cylinder 2.0-litre 20-valve, and a 148hp 2.0-litre FSI. There are two 1.8-litre engines; a 148hp 4-cylinder 1.8 20-valve, and a 161hp 4-cylinder 1.8 20-valve. There are two S-line variations in 1.8T engine; a 178hp 4-cylinder 1.8 turbo 20-valve, and a 187hp 4-cylinder 1.8 turbo 20-valve. There are two variations available in V6 30-valve engines; a 168hp 6-cylinder 2.4-litre 30-valve, and a 217hp 6-cylinder 3.0-litre 30-valve. The Audi A4 B6 diesel engines consist of following units; in 1.9 TDI there are three variations available. There's a 99bhp 4-cylinder 1.9-litre TDI, a 113bhp 4-cylinder 1.9-litre TDI and a 128bhp 4-cylinder 1.9-litre TDI. Then there are three variations in 2.5 V6 TDI engines; it's a 153bhp 6-cylinder 2.5-litre V6 TDI 24-valve, then a 161bhp 6-cylinder 2.5-litre V6 TDI 24-valve, and the last one is a 178bhp 6-cylinder 2.5-litre V6 TDI 24-valve.
