Human Resource and People Management is the deals with the art of managing the human workforce in an organization. Since a large proportion of industries in today’s world is Human Resource oriented industries, the demand for good Human Resource Managers and professionals is huge.
But before pursuing a career in Human Resource Management, one must be aware that Human Resource and People Management cover a huge gamut of responsibilities and work areas. One may choose to pursue a career in Human Resource Management in any specific field such as Recruitments or cover almost all the aspects and become a HR Generalist. It completely depends on personal choice and area of expertise.
In a people management program, one would learn that the responsibilities of a HR Manager are of two types- firstly, the defined roles such as recruitment, training and development and so on and the others are evolving depending on the organizational structure and goals. Those pursuing a career in Human Resource and people Management must remember that other than the defined responsibilities of a Human Resource professional as enumerated by any people management program, there can also be ad hoc responsibilities provided to a Human Resource professional to meet the organizational strength, life span and goals. If it is a large-scaled organization, one may have to plan out the organizational calendar in accordance with the public holidays and send it across to all employees in the offices.
More often than not a Human Resource Manager or professional may need to rise to the needs of a situation and intervene such as in cases of conflicts among employees and resolve it in the best interests of the organization and even retention of employees largely remain in the hands of the HR team. Depending on performance analysis and feedback of the department concerned, the HR team is responsible for bargaining and provide better terms of employment to retain a valuable employee. These responsibilities make the job role of a HR professional extremely dynamic and challenging.
Performance appraisal, handing out the reports to different departments also falls under the gamut of Human Resource. Training and development of employees and team-members to improve productivity both qualitatively and quantitatively falls on the shoulder of Human Resources along with rewarding incentives and perks to employees. Hence, the entire gamut of Human Resources is immense and some are defined while the others are ever-changing.
